SIMTEX™ SFE-2000-N Conjugate Filament Yarn

UBE Exsymo ? SRPP-FILAMENT

Manufacturer page / TDS

Description

Self-reinforcing conjugate filament with PE shell / highly oriented PP core. Official thermal shrinkage: 6–8% after 30 min at 140°C; recommended fabric sealing range: 120–140°C. UBE Exsymo states approximately twice the strength and three times the elastic modulus of conventional PP fiber. Comparative overview

High-performance polypropylene fiber — HMPP / Innegra-type fiber

Strengths: Very low density, high elongation, impact tolerance, damping and excellent dielectric transparency at low-to-moderate material cost.

When to use: Select for impact skins, luggage, helmets, automotive underbody, marine/sporting hybrids and radome/antenna structures needing toughness without conductivity.

Key tradeoffs: Low stiffness and poor heat/fire capability; creep and bonding must be managed. Usually hybridized with a stiffer fiber for structural loads.

Qualitative ratings (1–10 scale)

Relative cost5/10 — Moderate — specialty high-modulus polypropylene above commodity PP but below aramid/UHMWPE/PBO.
EM transparency10/10 — Exceptional — polypropylene is an excellent dielectric and RF transparent.
Temperature / fire resistance1/10 — Very low — low melting temperature makes it unsuitable for hot/fire-critical structures.
Impact / penetration resistance8/10 — Very high — very low density and about 9.5–10% elongation support strong low-velocity energy dissipation; ballistic role is mainly as a hybrid.
Electrical / thermal conductivity1/10 — Very low — electrically insulating with low thermal conductivity.
Specific tensile strength3/10 — 3/10 | 794.0 kN·m/kg | Class median
Atmospheric durability5/10 — Moderate — very low moisture uptake, but polypropylene is vulnerable to UV and thermo-oxidative ageing unless well stabilized.
Sustainability (CO₂e)8/10 — 2.20 kg CO₂e/kg fiber — Low emissions — data quality: Low
