Basfiber® Regular Assembled Roving
Kamenny Vek ? HS
Manufacturer page / TDSDescription
Continuous basalt-fiber product form. The official mechanical ranges are fiber-family values for epoxy-impregnated strands; exact ranges and available diameter/tex lists are retained in the supplemental sheet.
Comparative overview
Basalt fiber — Continuous basalt mineral fiber
Strengths: Good chemical, abrasion, vibration and fire resistance at moderate cost, using an abundant natural mineral feedstock.
When to use: Select for fire-safe transport/marine panels, rebar, pipes, infrastructure and glass-fiber alternatives needing better temperature or chemical durability.
Key tradeoffs: Properties and consistency depend on basalt chemistry; heavier and less stiff per mass than carbon. The mineral fiber can enter suitable recycling routes, but composite recyclability is controlled mainly by the matrix.
Qualitative ratings (1–10 scale)
| Relative cost | 4/10 — Low–moderate — above E-glass because of lower production scale and tighter melt chemistry control. |
|---|---|
| EM transparency | 7/10 — Good — nonconductive mineral fiber, but dielectric loss is generally less favorable than quartz or engineered low-Dk glass. |
| Temperature / fire resistance | 8/10 — Very high — continuous service around 460°C and short peaks near 1000°C; better hot performance than common E-glass. |
| Impact / penetration resistance | 6/10 — Good — higher strength/modulus than E-glass gives useful damage tolerance, but density and brittle fracture limit ballistic efficiency. |
| Electrical / thermal conductivity | 1/10 — Very low — electrically nonconductive with low thermal transport. |
| Specific tensile strength | 4/10 — 4/10 | 1142.3 kN·m/kg | Family estimate |
| Atmospheric durability | 8/10 — Very good — mineral fiber with low UV sensitivity and good moisture/salt resistance; sizing and matrix/interface usually control outdoor durability. |
| Sustainability (CO₂e) | 8/10 — 2.20 kg CO₂e/kg fiber — Low emissions — data quality: Low |
