Nippon Graphite Fiber ? Low Modulus
Manufacturer page / TDSDescription
Very low modulus, high elongation
Comparative overview
Carbon fiber — Low-modulus pitch carbon
Strengths: Cost-oriented pitch carbon with useful conductivity, low density and moderate reinforcement capability.
When to use: Select for general composites or conductive/thermal functions when extreme mechanical performance is not required.
Key tradeoffs: Mechanical performance is below structural PAN carbon; conductive and unsuitable for RF-transparent designs.
Qualitative ratings (1–10 scale)
| Relative cost | 6/10 — Moderate–high — specialty pitch-derived grade, less costly than UHM pitch but above commodity PAN carbon. |
|---|---|
| EM transparency | 1/10 — Very poor — conductive carbon is poor for EM transparency. |
| Temperature / fire resistance | 6/10 — Good — non-melting in inert service, but oxidation in air and matrix limits remain. |
| Impact / penetration resistance | 5/10 — Moderate — lower stiffness can improve compliance, but impact capability is still limited by carbon's brittle failure. Stored TDS elongation: 1.6%. |
| Electrical / thermal conductivity | 8/10 — Very high — pitch origin can provide high electrical/thermal transport even at lower modulus. |
| Specific tensile strength | 4/10 — 4/10 | 1000.0 kN·m/kg | Product TDS |
| Atmospheric durability | 9/10 — Excellent — carbon fiber is intrinsically resistant to UV, moisture and salt exposure; long-term laminate durability is usually governed by sizing, matrix, galvanic coupling and interfaces rather than the fiber. |
| Sustainability (CO₂e) | 4/10 — 24.00 kg CO₂e/kg fiber — High emissions — data quality: Low |
