- The laminate is assumed to contain uniformly distributed fibers and resin.
- Unless otherwise specified, the calculation assumes zero void content and constant constituent densities.
- Cured ply thickness is a theoretical estimate; actual thickness is affected by compaction, resin flow, nesting, fabric architecture, cure pressure and manufacturing tolerances.
- For woven reinforcements, local thickness may differ because of yarn crimp and nesting.
- For prepregs, use the actual fiber areal weight and resin content reported by the manufacturer.
- Results are preliminary engineering estimates and must be verified before design release, qualification or manufacturing.
